SCRHL RULES
With certain exceptions, the SCRHL follows the rules outlined by HOCKEY CANADA and can be obtained using the following link:
If a whole team exits the ice in protest prior to a game officially ending, then the exiting team forfeits the game (regardless of the score) and the team remaining on the ice will be assessed a 6 to 0 win.
PLAYER INJURY
Non-Goalie:
If a non-goalie's injury is serious enough that he / she cannot leave the ice until emergency medical assistance arrives and regulation time ends before assistance arrives, then the final score will be recorded at the point of injury (regular season game only). If a tie exists at the point of injury and it is a playoff game, then a coin will be flipped by one referee to determine the winner.
If the non-goalie is able to leave the ice and sufficient time remains in the game, then the game can continue.
Goalie:
If a goalie's injury is serious enough that he / she cannot leave the ice until emergency medical assistance arrives and regulation time ends before assistance arrives, then the final score will be recorded at the point of injury (regular season game only). If a tie exists at the point of injury and it is a playoff game, then a coin will be flipped by one referee to determine the winner.
If the goalie is able to leave the ice and sufficient time remains in the game, then the team with the injured goalie may play with 6 skaters (none of the skaters are permitted to play in net unless goalie equipment is available for one of the team's skaters to use) and the game can continue.
MERCY RULE
Once a team has acheived a 10-goal lead (ie: 10 to 0, 12 to 2, 11 to 1, or 13 to 3) against the opposing team, the score is recorded at this point and no further goals are posted.
PLAYOFF SHOOT-OUT
In the event of a tie following the final 1-minute of the third period, each team will choose their first player for the shoot-out (home team determines which team shoots first). Each chosen player will alternate shooting on the opposing team"'s goalie (ie: Team "A" shoots first, then Team "B", etc.). At the end of the initial one-player shooting round, if the goals are still tied or no one has scored, then a second, different player is chosen by each team to start the next round of the shoot-out. The shoot-out rounds will continue with different players each time until either a winner is determined or the game is forced to end following the entry of the Zamoboni / Olympia onto the ice. In the event that a winner isn"'t determined in the time allotted, the game winner will be given to the team with the most points in the regular season. If the regular season points between the two teams are tied, then each team""'s Goals For (GF) standing will be considered. Failing both of these tests, a coin toss by the referee will determine the winner.
FAST FACE-OFFS
Following a stoppage in play, teams have a maximum of five seconds to position themselves for continuance of play once the referee has blown his whistle at the ice position where the puck will be dropped. If players are not in position, then the puck will be dropped in their absence. If a player (or players) are in positions which will give them a significant team advantage if the puck is dropped in their absence, then the referee has the discretion of calling a penalty if the player appears to be purposely delaying the game.
In the SCRHL, slapshots are not permitted above the KNEE. There will be an immediate stoppage in play followed by a face-off.
ICING THE PUCK
In the SCRHL, ICING calls will be made from BEHIND the blue line. Passes can be made anywhere up to the defending team's blue line. ALL ICING IS NO TOUCH.
Icing the puck will be NULLIFIED if the goalie tender leaves the area of the goal crease in an attempt to play the puck.
INJURED PLAYERS
Injured players: Where a referee is concerned that a player MAY be injured, the play shall be stopped immediately and the situation assessed. The injured player must leave the ice when able, and be replaced by a teammate. If the injured player does NOT want to leave the ice but is able, a minor penalty will be assessed for delay of the game.
GAME EJECTION PENALTIES
SCRHL will use the 3 penalty rule PRIOR to assessing the GAME EJECTION PENALTY. In other words, if a players incurs 3 penalties in a given game, then he/she is automatically ejected from the game. However, no post-game disciplinary action will occur unless the third penalty was a major + GM / MATCH / GROSS. After 3 game ejections per 4-month period, fines will be assessed.
PUCK STRIKING GOALTENDER
When the puck strikes any goaltender on the HELMET, play will be stopped IMMEDIATELY to assess the goal tender in the event that an injury MAY have occurred BUT ONLY if the puck does not go directly into the net. If the puck bounces off the goaltender HELMET and directly into the net without changing direction again (ie: impacting another object or player), then the goal counts.
REFEREES & TIMEKEEPERS
Every game is officiated by one referee and a timekeeper who ensure adherence of the league rules and manages the clock / score board, respectively. If a referee no-shows, then the game still continues and the score is recorded by the timekeeper, but play will be with a higher degree of sportsmanship by both teams and the game recorded on the Go-Pro by the timekeeper. If the timekeeper no-shows, the referee will also look after the clock, penalty time, and scoreboard. The league manager will enter each team's game data into the league website at http://www.scrhl.ca/ upon receiving the gamesheet from the timekeeper via text message / e-mail after each game.
Prior to the puck-drop at each SCRHL game, a SCRHL referee will approach each team and ask that one player on each team (captain, assistant captain, or alternate player) is the Designated Team Contact (D) with whom officials will speak during the game. The (D) will be recorded on the timekeeper sheet and will be the officials point-of-contact for verifying player jersey numbers, incident discussion, post-game sportsmanship ratings, and team statistics verification. During the two game intermissions, only the (D) will be permitted to approach the timekeeper bench and allowed to enter to verify game statistics after receiving permission from the officials to enter the timekeeper box outside the timekeeper circle.
